The awe of being a connoisseur of some wines took me to this lush green Sula Vineyards situated in the little outskirts of Nashik city. It is easily accessible by a personal vehicle or any cab services. The entry fee is Rs. 250/person which can be redeemed at the restaurant. Sula Vineyards is India’s biggest and most popular winery and said to contribute about 80% in India’s wine sector.
I happen to visit this place right before the Sulafest in January 2019. It has spread over a vast area of land. As far as your eye can see, it’s just grapevines growing tremendously. The winery tour and wine tasting is the limelight of Sula Vineyards and is obviously recommended (the charges are very nominal). The tour guide will start the journey with Sula’s history, lets you witness the winemaking from the very first step (Brownie points if you’re a Chemical Engineer like me) and it ends on a sweet & sour note with the wine tasting session. They will give you hands-on experience with the Five S’s of Wine Tasting: See-Swirl-Sniff-Sip-Savor.
The restaurant here goes by the name “Rasa at Sula”. It offers a spectacular panoramic view of the vineyard. I just ordered some quick bites on the side and savoured more of their wines. I had a bottle of “Sula Brut” (White Sparkling Wine) and one bottle of their signature Red Sparkling Wine, “Sula Sparkling Shiraz”. The ambience here is what I define my perfect evening to be, great view, good wine, and the sunset.
They have a souvenir shop where you can buy some mementoes for the way back home. I just bought a fridge magnet. The wine shop here offers Sula wines at little less than the outside. I ended up buying 10 bottles of Sula Brut. The Sula Vineyards is worth a visit, especially for the wine tasting the expertise here give. Go through my pictures attached and see it for yourself. I shall visit again the first chance I get!
